Alamo sits in the heart of the Lower Rio Grande Valley, a quiet town east of San Juan where winter visitors settle into patio homes and retirees enjoy the mild season. Your yard here is typically compact, fenced in back, and often governed by HOA rules up front, which means artificial grass needs to fit tight spaces and pass architectural review.
McAllen Turf Installation has served Alamo homeowners and property managers since 2013. We know the clay soil that holds water after summer storms, the intense heat that bakes a real lawn to dust by July, and the small yards where a putting green or a low-maintenance pet turf makes more sense than struggling with sod. We show up on time, write down exactly what we are installing, and leave your property clean.
Artificial Grass Installation in Alamo (78516)
Alamo yards face real challenges. The flat terrain and heavy black clay soil in this part of Hidalgo County drain slowly, which means standing water after the late-summer and fall rains. A real lawn turns to mud in a dog run or a play area, and the heat (regularly above 95 degrees from June through September, often near or above 100) stresses grass to the point of failure. Artificial turf sidesteps both problems, but only if the base is built right. We start with proper grading and a compacted base layer, so water moves away from the yard instead of pooling under the turf.
Front-yard turf in Alamo almost always requires HOA approval. We help with submittals, showing your HOA the turf product, the pile height, and the color, but the decision is theirs. We never promise approval, and we never install without it.
Backyard turf is straightforward. A 400 square foot dog run or a patio surround around one of Alamo's many pools is a solid fit for artificial grass. Tight side-yard access is common here, so we plan for turf rolls and base material to fit through gates and along the house. Our team has installed hundreds of yards across McAllen and the surrounding area, and we know how to work in the space you have.

How a Job Works in Alamo
We start with a free on-site assessment. You tell us what you want (a pet area, a putting green, a pool surround, or a full backyard conversion), and we look at the existing lawn or turf, the drainage, the sun exposure, and access for equipment. If you need an HOA submittal for a front-yard job, we discuss that upfront and prepare the paperwork with you.
On installation day, our team removes the old lawn or turf (if that is part of the job), grades and compacts the base, and lays the new turf. We use a plate compactor to ensure a solid foundation, and we pay attention to drainage so water does not pool at the edges or under the turf. If your yard has had standing water problems, we fix the grading first. If we cannot get the drainage right, we tell you so and do not proceed.
When we are done, we clean up all debris, sweep the turf, and walk through the finished job with you. You get a written spec showing the turf product, face weight, pile height, infill type and pounds per square foot, and base depth. That spec is your record of what was installed.
Artificial grass in Alamo typically runs from $8 to $18 per square foot, depending on what you choose. A standard residential backyard turf starts at $8 per square foot; pet turf and dog runs run $10 per square foot and up; putting greens start at $15 per square foot. A 400 square foot backyard conversion (removal of old lawn, base prep, and standard turf) usually falls in the $3,200 to $4,800 range. A 1,000 square foot job runs $8,000 to $12,000 or more, depending on the turf grade, whether you need removal and base work, and site conditions like drainage or difficult access. Pool surrounds and patios start at $9 per square foot. Removal alone (if you are replacing old turf or converting a lawn) runs from $2 per square foot. The real cost depends on the area, the turf product and face weight you choose, the infill type, the depth and compaction of the base, what has to come out first, and whether your yard needs drainage work.
